It is always one of the highlights of my year to go to the Final Four with my dad.  We have been going together since 1987 – when Indiana beat Syracuse in New Orleans.  The NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Convention is always held in conjuntion to the games.  It is alot of fun to spend the weekend with dad and see many of our coaching friends and colleagues.  Reliant Stadium is massive, but just about every seat had a view of the floor – unlike some of the stadiums that the NCAA is now using.  On Friday, all 4 teams hold a 50 minute practice in the stadium.  This year, there were alot of UK fans – with the Cats making their first trip back to the Final Four since 1998.  If you have never been to the Final Four – and have a chance to go – especially with your family – it is an incredible weekend.

Good job to our Girls’ middle school, 13U-14U Boys, and Boys’ 16U Select team.  We are off to a good start!  Our 16U Select club (comprised of mostly 15s) lost in the Semi’s of the 16U State AAU Tournament in Montgomery.

Congratulations to Coach Lennie Acuff and the UAH Chargers on winning the South regional and advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight in Springfield, MA.  Here’s hoping they can continue to play well can cut down the nets at the home of basketball.  It has been a pleasure seeing these guys play and a luxury to have Big-Time college basketball in our hometown.

These players have been selected after the first cut for our 15U Club team.  We will workout today at 5 p.m. and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.  After this, we will make the final cut and schedule practices for next week.  Our first tournament is next weekend 24th-26th.

Tomorrow night (Saturday, 3/12/11)  will be the 1st Annual Senior Charity Showcase Basketball games at Randolph School Gym – Garth campus.  ALL PROCEEDS from the games will benefit the north Alabama Boys and Girls Clubs.  Admission is $5.o0 for everyone 10 and older.  See the TOP senior players in the Tennessee Valley one last time!
